What is Computer Diagnostics?
Vehicle diagnosis normally deals with a component referred to as “An Electronic Control Module” (ECM).
ECM problems aren’t really designed to be repaired, so replacement is normally the recommended procedure. Even if your mechanic senses that the ECM is the source of your trouble, you should troubleshoot and eliminate all other potential problems before pulling the ECM and installing a new one.
While ECMS can cause all sorts of electrical problems, the reverse is also true, faulty or malfunctioning sensors can actually damage your ECM. That’s another reason to do a thorough troubleshooting procedure before assuming the source of a problem. If you know you have a faulty sensor or two, get them replaced first as soon as possible.
